Quick update (again!)

Hello!

I haven't updated for a while, but things are going so well! Luke is getting so big, and is generally happy and content baby, unless he is hungry.... then WATCH OUT! He's walking everywhere now, so sitting down is pretty much a thing of the past for us. He is happiest when he is outside, or hiding in my closet behind my sweaters waiting for someone to come and find him!

I can't believe he is almost one- time flies, mom cries ;)

I've started back at crossfit, and have a sprint tri coming up in a couple of weeks... yikes! My goal for the tri is not to drown :) I've also been hitting the gym with my sister, so I am starting to feel like myself again!

Speak of the sister, she got married last weekend, and the whole thing was perfect. It was by far the most emotional wedding I have ever attended, I have never witnessed that many grown men crying in my life. She was a beautiful bride, and I'm so proud of how hard she is working to regain her strength and mobility.

We just keep trucking along, nothing too crazy to report! I'm currently working on a post on the books I've been reading lately, there have been some really good ones.. hoping to have that published sometime in the next year!

Mr Luke- 9 months

The "little" man is 9 months old already! I say "little" because at his last appointment he weighed in at 22 lbs (81st percentile) and 31 inches (99th percentile).  He also has massive feet and hands, so I'm thinking it's kind of like dogs and he is going to be a big kid! haha

He was sleeping better for the most part, and then all of a sudden we've hit some weird sleep regression. His naps are still great, usually twice a day for 1.5 hours, but all of a sudden he's fighting nighttime sleep, or waking up and not going back to sleep for about 2 hours (seems to be his magic number) in the middle of the night. It's driving me nuts and can stop anytime now!!
He is on the move and into everything, my kitchen is a disaster area by the end of the day, as emptying the cupboards is his favorite activity. I was going to put locks on them, but there's nothing in them that can hurt him, and it seems to make him happy, so whatever ;)
The bathroom door, however, now stays closed since we've discovered unravelling the toilet paper, and playing in the toilet.. eww.

9 month likes:

Pulling himself up on everything!

He loves to read and is starting to look at books on his own now

As mentioned above, emptying cupboards is a fave

Eating still ranks as a top activity. I can't eat anything anymore without him begging for some..he's worse than Bax!

Brushing my teeth is another activity that I can't do without him, he cries if  I try to brush mine without giving him his brush. Hopefully this will save me big money in dental bills down the road!

9 month dislikes:

He's not a fan of his carseat still, anything where he is restrained is a no no. He's decided this month that he's not a fan of the bathtub since he isn't allowed to stand. bath time has become a 1.5 minute scrub/rinse/out routine. He does love to run around in his towel afterwards though!

Move it Monday {6}.. at the end of a Tuesday!

Today seems like it should be Monday... I guess that's long weekends for you!

Exciting news- we tried out our new stroller (the chariot) and apparently Luke loves it! He hated the BOB's guts, so I am pretty excited that he is into the Chariot. We've been easing into  longer walks and so far, so good. I'm excited/nervous to try it out behind my bike! Hopefully I'll get to that this week sometime :)
It's like Where's Waldo... can you spot the Baxter?
Last week's workouts:

Mon 16- Last day of Level 1 30 day shred
Tues 17- First day of Level 2 30DS, 22 min run on treadmill
Wed 18- 30DS Level 2
Thurs 19- 30 DS Level 2, two stroller walks with Luke and Bax
Fri 20- Stroller walk with Luke, Will and Bax
Sat 21- Nada. The all day rain cramped my style (and apparently my motivation as well!)
Sun 22- 30 DS level 2, stroller walk

My plan is to do 5K time trial on my favorite trail on Saturday... my goal is to run the whole thing, no matter how slow I go.... gulp!

Move it Monday {5}

As a follow up to Friday's post, I am going to start recapping my weekly workouts again! It helps me to feel accountable, even if no one else reads them ;)

Mon 9- 30 day shred level 1, C25K Week 6 day 1
Tue 10- 30 day shred level 1
Wed 11- 30 day shred level 1
Thurs 12- off
Fri 13- 30 day shred level 1, 25 min run
Sat 14- off
Sun 15- 30 day shred level 1, c25K Week 6, day 3

On Friday I was going to do the Couch to 5 K Week 6 day 2 workout, but I decided just to try and run for 25 min continuously. I was able to do it, and I was pretty happy with that. I was a weird feeling to be happy about running for such a short period of time, but progress is progress :) I have one more day of level 1 of the 30DS (did that today) so tomorrow its onto level 2!

I have no workout photos from last week, so instead you get a picture of my little workout buddy! He woke up early from his nap the other day as I was finishing my workout, and was such a good sport about entertaining himself while I finished!

Working out!

I remember when I first got pregnant with Luke and was really worried about gaining weight. I remember my mom telling me "it'll take you 9 months to put it on, so it will likely take 9 months to take it off." I laughed, sure that I wasn't going to gain a whole bunch of weight, and agreed with her- while secretly thinking I would have it off so quickly! I would workout while the baby slept, it would be no biggie.

Fast forward to gaining 50 ish pounds during pregnancy, having some brutal pain after having him, to the point where I could hardly walk for the first 6 weeks, having a baby who refused to sleep for more than 15-20 minutes at a time, and then my sister getting sick (she is doing fabulously by the way!!).... Yeah, I was wrong!

Luke will be 9 months old on Monday, and I am still 10 lbs away from my pre pregnancy weight, which is actually about 10 lbs higher than where I like to sit. That being said, the weight isn't really super important... I'd just like to be able to fit back into my summer clothes, I reeeeeally don't want to have to buy new ones!

Now that Luke is finally napping for longer stretches, and is at the point where he can entertain himself a bit, workouts are happening more regularly. I am doing a workout video (currently Jillian's 30 day shred which I love!) 4-5 days a week, and a C25K workout 3 days a week. I'm also starting 1 spin class per week- first one is on Friday! The inches are starting to come off, I have to remember that consistency is key!!

We used to do quite a bit of walking, but now that he is mobile, he HATES the stroller with a passion. Which is unfortunate since I just bought a (used) Chariot with the bike attachment. Hoping he gets over that soon.

Back when the stroller was A-ok!

I signed up for a sprint triathlon in Spokane in August, so that gives me a goal to work towards. I definitely do not have any time goals or expectations, although I think my one goal will be to do the run without walking! I'm almost done the couch to 5K, so excited to start stretching my runs a little longer again. There are a couple of 5 and 10 K races that I'd like to do in the fall, so I'm looking forward to that as well!

It feels good to get my plans/goals in writing! I feel like I am finally into a groove, so hopefully I will start to see some results soon!!

Anyone have any tips for getting stroller hating babies to like the stroller again?? I'm getting desperate!

Mr. Luke- 8 months

* Just like everything else, I am late with this too! I wrote it and for got to finish/publish it. Life!!

Luke turned 8 months old on Saturday, and the changes in him in the last month were unbelievable! He went from sort of crawling/flinging himself across the floor, to really quick proper crawling, and pulling himself up on EVERYTHING. I've had to take than handles off on any drawer he can reach because he pulls himself up, and then slams his fingers in them.
When he first started pulling up on everything, he had no idea how to get down, so would do a deadfall backwards and slam his head on the floor (I missed him twice because he veered sideways and it was sad.). He's finally learned to lower himself slowly to his bum, which is much less stressful for me!
He had his first night at home with just dad, I went on a little overnighter to Banff with some girlfriends which was wonderful!
His two front teeth are completely in, I'm loving his little gap toothed smile! The two beside the top ones are just peeking through, bringing our total to 6 teeth! Still up 1-2 times a night to eat (with the occasional sleep through the night, woohoo!) Naps are still way better, I feel cheated now when he sleeps for less than an hour at a nap!

8 Month loves:

This was the first time he pulled himself up on something.... and so it begins

Next came kneeling in the crib, which was lowered 5 minutes after this picture was taken! He was pretty proud of himself

Riding in the shopping cart like a big boy has made shopping so much more enjoyable, he hated being in his car seat in the cart. Bonus points if he can ride with Brookie and they can try to poke eachother's eyes out :)

He is a big fan of the park still, and loves the swings (I think half of his friends are asleep in this picture!)

Riding in this car is his favorite thing ever! He loves to go up and down the driveway at my parents place, and down this hill to visit Auntie Linds in the trailer!

Still a big fan of eating, and he now does this weird sideways head thing sometimes in his high chair! I think he is trying to be cute, but I'm not 100% sure :)

8 Month dislikes:

The only thing I can think of right now is his carseat, he absolutely hates it!  I try to time car rides with bottle times if I can so that he isn't completely miserable the whole time. Other than that, he is one content little dude!!

Weekend Recap

It's been quite a while since I did anything other than a Monthly Luke update! I think the gorgeous weather we are having (and Luke napping for longer than a minute at a time) are helping to make me more productive!

Will has a three day weekend most weekends, so our weekend starts when he gets home on Thursdays!

Thursday evening:
It was our friend Marshall's birthday, so we took a quad ride up a mountain for a fire and some skeet shooting! It was a beautiful night, so much fun to get out! My mom and dad watched Luke and his cousins so we could all go- they are the best!

Friday:
I took Luke for his first run in the jogging stroller.. so hard to get used to! I went for 30 mins on an awesome paved trail that used to be railroad tracks. It's finally clear of snow, so I'm thinking it's almost time to get the bikes out, woohoo!

We also got out for a walk with my mom later in the day, it was 21 degrees out, so no way we were hanging out inside!!

Saturday:
Will was working on plans for our new deck, so Luke and I grabbed an Iced coffee and hit the park with his cousins Eli and Brooke!

We hung out in the yard in the afternoon watching Will deconstruct the deck, and took a ride in the wheelbarrow.

We went up to my parent's farm to get Baxter in the evening (he sometimes has sleepovers there), and papa took Luke for a ride down to Auntie Nin's trailer (which she is almost ready to move back into- hooray Linds!!) on Eli's car. He looked like such a big kid sitting in it, so cute!

Sunday:
We spent some more time hanging out in the yard while Will worked on the deck, and then headed up to my mom and dad's for some volleyball and a BBQ! A great way to end a gorgeous weekend :)
