August foodie pen pal reveal!

Today marks the end of another month, and the end of summer vacation. Many people are saddened by the end of summer, but I am so ready for fall! I love fall weather, fall runs, fall food, fall clothes... I could go on forever!
The end of the month also means that it is time for the foodie pen pal reveal! For more info on the foodie pen pal program, check out the link at the bottom of this post!

I received my foodie pen pal package this month from Kerri, who is a blog reader. She is a mom of 3 girls from Alberta, Canada. She is doing her first triathlon in Banff this year, which I am considering doing, so it was cool that we got paired together! Kerri sent me an amazing package, take a look at the goodies that I got!


So excited to get my package in the mail!!

The first thing I saw was was this chocolate bar, and my heart was won!

Next was a bag of biscotti- the most amazing biscotti I have ever had! Kerri made it herself and it was delicious on its own, in tea, in coffee.. sooooo good!

Kerri spent sometime this summer working with her daughter at a bee ranch, and they sell their honey to BeeMaid! I just ran out of liquid honey and this was on my grocery list so this was perfect timing!

Mr Norris insisted on helping me unwrap my goodies!


Dried cherries- I love these in my oatmeal!! I can't wait until fall when its cool enough to eat oatmeal to enjoy them!

Blueberry Black tea picked out by Kerri's daughter. I have a huge tea collection and I love trying new kinds. This tea is awesome chilled!!
This daily health booster came with the tea. I haven't tried it yet, but I am excited to try!

The last thing I pulled out of the box was these RiceWorks chips. I've only ever tried the plain ones, and man have I been missing out!! These are so yummy and I am going to have to figure out where to buy them here!

All you need is love

Hello!

I have been slacking biiiig time on the blogging front. The last few weeks have been busy and full of traveling with not much access to a computer. I am so looking forward to fall- I love getting back into a routine.

I am going to keep this post short and sweet- today is me and Will's anniversary! We have been married for two amazing years now, and it just keeps getting better. I can't imagine life without my bestest best friend in the world!

Nelson Triathlon- Race Recap

 This weekend was the Cyswog N Fun triathlon in Nelson BC. My mom, dad and I entered as a team. My mom and I have been trying to get my dad into triathlons for a while, and doing one as a team seemed to be a good way to get him started!

 So "Team D" was born (Danielle, Dagny and Don, not very original I know!)

 My mom did the swim, dad did the bike and I did the run. It was a freaking hot day, which equaled a not so excited Danielle- I HATE running in the heat. I will get up at 5:30 am to avoid running in temperatures above 15 degrees. The temperature in Nelson on Sunday was 35 freaking degrees. With no wind. Gross. My mom was ok with the weather though, seeing as she had to jump into the 16 degree water.

The race started at 8:00 am and the swimmers were off. I tried to keep an eye on my mom, but she was lost in a sea of green caps.

 My mom was out of the water in  32:31. she could have been faster, however as she was swimming towards one of the buoys she was wondering why everyone else was swimming the wrong way. It took her a minute to figure out that it was in fact HER going the wrong way.

It was a pretty decent time regardless.

 Next up was the bike. My dad is one of those freaky people who can not work out and eat ice cream twice a day and stay in crazy good shape. That being said, he trained for this race..... for about 3 weeks. His time on the bike was 1:18:24 which is a good time for an extremely hilly 40km ride.

 Next up was the run, my turn! We drove the course the night before, and I totally psyched myself out. The route was the hilliest I had ever seen, and I was super nervous! I felt awesome starting out though, and the first 4km I was running 5:40/km average. After about 4.5 km, I could feel my toes swelling and blisters forming. It was so hot, I was grabbing two cups of water at each water station and drinking a bit out of one and dumping the rest directly onto my head.  At the top of one of the hills there was a man standing with a gun type nozzle on his waterhose and he was soaking people. That my friends was a life saver. He absolutely soaked me from head to toe, and I couldn't wait to pass him again on the way back. I actually considered proposing, but I didn't think his wife who was standing next to him would approve.

About 6km in the blisters were really starting to bother me, so I walked for a minute to try to adjust my toes. That just bothered me more so I decided to just suck it up and deal with it. I slowed my pace a little  to try to relieve the pain a bit. With about half a km to go I saw my cheering section (mom, dad, Will, Lauren) hanging out on the bridge. A couple of high fives later and I was on my way to the finish line. My official time ended up being 1:01:19 which I was happy with considering the hills, the heat and the blisters. As soon as I was done I pulled my shoes off and was totally grossed out by what I saw.... ready for it??

I headed down to the lake, pulled my shirt off and jumped in. It felt really good on my burning toes and aching legs.

One of the things I love about the Nelson Triathlon is the free pre and post race massages! My dad and I both partook.

Overall I was a great race. Our final time was 2:52:14. I have only been running again for about 3 weeks so I was happy with the time I put up. The course was absolutely gorgeous, and it was a really well run event.

As always, I am so thankful for my professional spectator/photographer husband Will! He is always there to support me in whatever I am doing and I love him to death for it! One day I will get him to join me in a race :)

My next race is the Wunderwoman sprint triathlon in 2 weeks in Spokane. I have a bachelorette party to attend the night before, so I'm sure the race will be just wonderful!

Changing things up

Sunday is the day for my relay triathlon!
 I am supposed to be doing the swim, but due to under training for it, I have convinced my mom to switch me sports! So now I get to do the 10k run instead. As much as I love to show off how fantastic I look in a wetsuit...

.... I am way more excited about doing the run part instead! Its going to be a scorcher on Sunday though, (34 degrees!!) so I'm not so much looking forward to that.

WIAW #5 and Half Marathon training update

Wow!

August 1st already.. what the heck!? I can't believe July is over and there is only a month until school starts again! Yikes.

A new month means a new theme for What I Ate Wednesday:
Peas and Crayons

This month, the focus of WIAW is Summer Staples. My favorite summer foods? Summer fruits like cherries, nectarines, strawberries, peaches, watermelon... I could seriously go on and on! Another summer staple for me is definitely Popsicles- store bought or homemade! My surrent favorite is the mango greek yogurt flavour from Superstore, they are so yummy! I made some of my own popsicles yesterday, and I cant wait to try them.
Breakfast #1
I had to take this picture this morning becaus I shoveled the food in my mouth so fast on my way out the door for my run. A piece of delicious homemade whole wheat bread with my new Dark Chocolate Dreams PB!

Breakfast #2
Second breakfast after my run- Strawberries, Oikos lime greek yogurt and Jordans Muesli
 Lunch
My delicious lunch bowl- 1 scrambled egg + 4 egg whites (leftover from a pie I made on the weekend), sliced mushrooms, salsa, avocado and a pinch of cheese. It was so filling and yummy! lucky for Baxter, I couldn't finish the whole thing :)
Snack
Snack plate!  4 Triscuit Olive Oil and Rosemary crackers, the end of my bag of Marys Gone Crackers pretzels (which if you have not tried you need to run out and get some. NOW!), a scoop of hummus, a scoop of Anna's Yum Dip, and 3 carrots from the farmers market
Dinner
Jambalaya pasta. I scraped off most of the cheese and gave it to Will, and ate maybe a quarter of it. It was sooo good though!!


I planned on having dessert, but dinner filled me right up! I also snacked on cherries and a nectarine throughout the day.

Now, onto the 1/2 marathon training update!

So far, so good on the foot front. I went for a trail run with my "little" sister Lindsey yesterday ( I say "little" because although she's three years younger than me, she has a good 5 inches on me!), and the uneven surface bothered my foot a little bit, but overall it wasn't too bad!

I have a speedwork session planned for this evening at the track, and a longer run (13km I believe) planned for Thursday morning. I had to move my long run for the weekend to Thursday because of the triathlon on Sunday. I am doing the swim leg which is 1500m. I have been watching the Olympic swimming events, that totally counts as training right?
