A quick blogging hiatus

I have been feeling kind of blah about blogging lately- not much to tell everyone about!

Christmas was great, I had so much fun hanging out with family and friends.
On Christmas Eve was busy. It's my moms birthday so we had a big fire to celebrate.

After the fire I went for a walk with Will, my friend Michelle and her brother James into the community forest to check out some Christmas trees that we had heard about. Someone went in and decorated some trees with solar powered Christmas lights and Christmas ornaments so that they light up at night! It was super cool!

Christmas day was super fun, the best part was hanging out with baby Eli, he is getting so big and cute! Hanging out with the rest of the fam wasn't too bad either!

I was spoiled by will, and am currently writing this post from my new iPad! I'm interested to see how the format turns out :)

I am planning on a little blogging hiatus until I get back from my trip to Belize around mid January. I am getting super excited for warm weather and sunshine!!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and has a safe and happy New Years!

Canadian Blogger Christmas Swap

Last year I participated in the Canadian Blogger Christmas Swap, and I loved it! I found lots of great new blogs to read, and got a cute little Christmas package from Nicole!

This year I got the most adorable ornament from Tennille! Check it out:

I love that it was personalized, and that Bax and Murph were included! It looks totally awesome on my tree!! Thanks so much Tennille!

Weekend recap.. a day late

It's December!!

Oh my lanta, where did this year go?? Seriously, I cannot believe how fast time is flying. And how much I'm sucking at blogging. My goal for December is to blog 2 times/week, hopefully I can keep up with that!

December is my favorite month, I love Christmas and everything that goes along with it!
Friday evening was the Santa Claus parade, I went with Will and my two besties Kirsten and Michelle (ps I think besties is a really silly word... but I kinda like it!) Our town is not super big so the parade was kinda lame. We went for sushi beforehand though, so that totally makes up for it!

Call me the purple people eater

Saturday was a non Christmassy day (boo!), I went and ran stairs with Kirsten in the AM and spent the rest of the day tidying the house and just hanging out. Will and I had a date night, we went for dinner and then went to watch Catching Fire. I LOVED it!! So amazing. I really want to read the books over again, I might have to put them onto the list of books I want to read in Belize!

On Sunday, Will and I went out with my mom and dad to chop down a Christmas tree. We took our Quads and our dogs out on Sunday afternoon, and we found some pretty nice trees...winning! We usually take forever to pick out the perfect tree, I think it helped that there was no snow this year.

Sunday night we got a huuuuge dump of snow, so my regular hour and 15 min drive to work on Monday morning ended up taking me 2 and a half hours. It was crazy, I felt like I was driving on a bush road. I love snow, but I am most definitely not a fan of winter driving.

I hope everyone has a fabulous week! I am starting the Elf on the Shelf with my class tomorrow, I think it should be hilarious!

Anyone else do elf on the shelf? Any fun elf ideas?

Vacation!!

Will and I have booked our winter vacation for this year!

On January 1st we will be on our way to Belize!
I am beyond excited. We are going with our friends Paige and Jeremy who live in Spokane, so that is where we are going to fly out of. We have a long trip down with a couple of layovers, followed by 12 days of glorious sunshine!!

We are going to split our time there  between 2 of the islands. The first one we'll be staying on is Ambergris Caye.
Ambergris is the busier of the two islands, its a little more touristy. We are staying in a nice hotel that is right on the water here.

The second island is Caye Caulker.

Caye Caulker is tiny- its 5 miles long, and 1 mile wide. There are no cars on the island, just golf carts. Being that it is only 5 miles long, I feel like we'll be walking most places. The house that we are renting there comes with bikes (I think) so that will be perfect for getting around. I am so excited to get there and just spend some time relaxing!
Both islands are along the barrier reef, so lots of snorkeling will most definitely be happening. Will and Jeremy are planning on doing lots of fishing as well.

T-56 days and counting... I CAN'T WAIT!!

Anyone else taking a tropical vacation this winter?
Anyone ever been to Belize? Recommendations?

Weekend Recap

I got home from Invermere at about 6:30 on Friday evening. Waiting for me was this beautiful sight....
 David's Tea!!!!

I ordered a bunch of new flavors and I was so excited to get them! Nothing says fall like a good book and a steaming mug of tea. I got 6 new flavours- Stormy Night, Chocolate Orange, Chocolate Mint, Love tea #7, Sugar and Spice, and Birthday Cake. I think it's safe to say I have a bit of an addiction going on!

Saturday morning I headed to the Rec-Plex with my friend Kirsten to run stairs. I used to love running stairs, and today I remembered why! It's quick and hard, and I feel like dying after 15 minutes- I feel like I'm making good use of my time!! We did some walking around the complex once we were done, it's been way too long since we've hung out and it was great to catch up with her!

I spent most of the rest of Saturday doing some prep cooking. I find that I am so tired after I come home from school during the week and I never feel like cooking. Thank goodness there are no fast food joints near where I am living, or I can almost guarantee I'd be all about them!
I made chicken enchilada soup, honey sesame chicken, barbacoa pork, and turkey chili. I've had the turkey chili before, and it is ah-mazing! The rest of the recipes are new to me, so I'm hoping that they are good! I froze a bunch of them in single serving sizes so I can have them for lunch and for dinner. I'm planning on making salads out of the barbacoa pork and honey sesame chicken.. yum!

Sunday morning we had my parents, my sister, and my brothers girlfriend and my nephew over for breakfast! We had pumpkin pancakes that we made using a mix we got from Trader Joe's last weekend- they were the bomb!! So good..... I definitely had too many.
My sister and my cutest little nephew

Will and I spent the afternoon just hanging out. It was snowing like crazy, we had about six inches on the ground by the evening. Snow makes me so happy!! We went to town and got Starbucks.. red cups are back!!

When we got home we went for a snowy walk with the puppies.

Overall, a great relaxing weekend! I'm hoping we have this much snow at Christmas this year!!

Did it snow where you live??

Thanksgiving weekend recap

My weekend went by way too fast!

Will and I left right after school on Thursday and drove to Edmonton. We ended up getting there pretty late, so it was straight to bed!

On Saturday morning I went for a 5km run with Will's sister Erika. We did it in about 31 mins. I like to run with other people sometimes because I'm really bad at doing easy runs on my own. I always want to push myself and try to go as fast as I can instead of going slow and steady.

It was an absolutely gorgeous fall day, it's crazy how much further ahead Edmonton weather is than Cranbrook/Invermere weather. The leaves have all turned and are already falling off the trees! It made for a beautiful run.

My favorite running path in the world! So gorgeous any time of year!
We spent the rest of the day deconstructing Will's granny's deck. Lots of wood was packed to the dumpster by Erika and I. We spent the evening visiting with the rest of Will's family who arrived that evening.

Saturday's workout was brought to you by the West Edmonton Mall. Erika, Amber (Will's brother's wife) and I spent a few hours shopping, and that place was so freaking busy! I did get some cute stuff, but I was questioning whether or not it was worth it after about 1/2 an hour of fighting the crowds. e stoppped at Tutti Frutti for frozen yogurt on my way home... I see what everyone has been raving about with these build it yourself fro-yo places. It was magical! I wish I would have taken a picture of my masterpiece!

Sunday morning I decided to take on the same 5K route that Erika and I ran on Friday to see how quickly I could do it. I started out slowly, but ended up making a pretty good time in the end- 27:30. I was really happy with that! Sunday ended with me stuffing myself with turkey until I had to be rolled into the living room (perhaps a slight exaggeration).

Monday was spent in the car for an 8 hour ride home. When we got home my mom had leftovers waiting for us, as well as my brother and the cutest little Eli! He and Will had some bonding time over mashed sweet potatoes.

I think that's his "so why did you stop feeding me?" look. He's been giving it quite often lately.

Overall it was a great weekend although it's taken me until Thursday to recover. Only 2 more work days until this weekend! Woohoo!

Thankful Turkeys

It's the Friday before a long weekend (if you're in Canada).. yipee!!

Will and I decided to drive to Edmonton for Thanksgiving to visit his Granny. 8 hours is a long way to drive for 3 days, so I took my flex day at work today so I could have a 4 day weekend. Yay for getting paid and not being at work!!

I spent lots of time this week talking with my class about things they are thankful for. I got lots of the generic answers like mom, dad, family, but some kids got creative. Some of my favorites were: lego, books, the baby in mommy's tummy, school, my heart, the night and day, trees because they make air, and Terry Fox. It's really cute to listen to them explain why they chose the things that they did.

We did a few Turkey type crafts this week, my favorite one was the thankful turkeys. The had to write down 5 things they were thankful for, and then those became the turkey's feathers. Here is my example:

Their turkeys turned out really cute. Grade 1's have a hell of a time following directions though. We went through it step by step a few times, but we still ended up with turkeys with purple feathers.

PS Pluralizing the word Turkey is hard to do. I tried to write it on the board and the kids laughed at me when I had to look up the spelling. Turkeys, Turkys, Turkies? I finally figured it out though.. Turkeys is the proper pluralization in case you were wondering. It's a good thing I teach grade 1 and not grade 9.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving weekend, safe travels if you are heading out on the road!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

10 Random Thoughts

1. Three weeks of grade 1 = three grey hairs pulled out of my head. Scary.

2. I am already on my second cold of the school year. Grade 1 students = germ factories

3. My new bedtime is 8:30pm.

4. Parent night last week was the most terrifying night of my entire life. It went pretty well though and I only stumbled on my words a minimal amount of times. Great success!

5. Two day weekends are the worst! I don't know who decided that was a good idea, they should be 3 days at the very least!

6. I need more squats in my life. I miss them.

7. I really want a new treadmill. Anyone have one that they are in love with and want to tell me all about?? I spent a good chunk of my day today researching them.

8. Pumpkin Spice Lattes: Tried one last year, thought it was gross. My sister in law and I got them the other day and she ordered them with half the syrup... now my new favorite thing. Dang it!

9. I got pied in the face on Friday as part of a fundraiser at the school. Weirdest experience ever, it's like being suffocated  by deliciousness!

10. I'm going to start logging my runs on Daily Mile again, it's been a long time since I've updated my account. Anyone else use it to track their mileage?

Happy Monday!!

May/June/July/August books read

I'm falling behind on my reading!!!

May, June, July and August were busy, but I did manage to read 11, bringing my total to 28 for the year. I'm still hoping to reach my total of 52 by Dec 31st, but I feel like that means I'm going to do a heck of a lot of reading on Christmas break! Can I count textbooks? Because I have been reading a lot of those lately!! I'm also trying to decide if Audiobooks count. I have to drive for an hour and a half at least 2 times per week so I'm thinking those might be a good way to pass the time.

*As a side note, does anyone else decide that they really like a song or two and put them on repeat for like an hour straight? Yeah, me neither.

1. Nineteen Minutes- Jodi Picoult
 19-400
This book is about a school shooting from the perspective of a few different people, including the shooter, and the girlfriend of one of the victims. I really loved this book, it was the first Jodi Picoult book that I read, and as you can see by the rest of my selections, I have a new favorite author!

2. The Pact- Jodi Picoult
 The Pact
I loved this book so much! I don't really know how to summarize it without giving away and major parts of the story, so just read it. You'll love it too!

3. Night- Elie Weisel
A white background with patches of blue. In the foreground, a figure in black, no features visible; around him, barbed wire. Above the figure are the words "Night," Elie Wiesel, winner of the 1986 Nobel Peace Prize, with a new preface by Robert McAfee Brown, and "A slim volume of terrifying power," The New York Times.

I read this book in high school and really enjoyed it, so I decided to read it again. It was written by Elie Weisel, who is a survivor of the WWII concentration camps. The book chronicles his experience. It is such a powerful story, I highly recommend it if you haven't already read it.

4.Dark Places- Gillian Flynn

I really loved Gone Girl, so when I saw another Gillian Flynn book as a suggested read on my ebook I decided to give it a go. I enjoyed this book, definitely not quite as much as Gone Girl though.

5.House Rules- Jodi Picoult

House Rules - 2010

I'm having such a hard time deciding which of the Jodi Picoult books is my favorite. House Rules is about a boy with Aspergers syndrome who is obsessed with crime scenes and anything to do with them. When his tutor is found dead he becomes a suspect. The thing I love about Picoult's books is the twists at the end that you don't see coming, and I definitely didn't have this one figured out.

6. Vanishing Acts-Jodi Picoult
Vanishing Acts

This was probably my least favorite of the Jodi Picoult books. I liked it, but it definitely took me longer to get through than the other ones. Again, hard to describe without giving the major events away.

7.Perfect Match
Perfect Match

This one was definitely one of my favorites. It's about a prosecutor who tries to put child molesters behind bars. When her own son is molested, she decides to take justice into her own hands. It was a really great read.

8. Is Everyone hanging out without me?- Mindy Kaling
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)

Simply Hilarious. Perfect for a light read. If you're a fan of the Office or even if you aren't, it will have you rolling on the floor. I really want to be Mindy's best friend after reading this book.

9-11. The Hunger Games Trilogy

Another re-read. These books are phenomenal, it took me a long time to get on the bandwagon and read them, but once I got into them I couldn't put them down. So great! If you haven't read them yet, DO IT NOW!!!

I have a few more Jodi Picoult books to read when I get time, I'm really looking forward to reading My Sister's Keeper.

Anyone read any good books lately? Tell me about them!

Practicing Gratitude- Willy!

This guy.

We celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary on August 28th.... well as much as you can celebrate when you're in two different places! I had to be in Invermere for work, and Will was in Bull River so we didn't get to see each other. We went out for a nice dinner on the Saturday when we both got home though, so that was great!

Our 3 year wedding anniversary marks seven and a half years exactly since we started dating.

That picture is the first one I have of us after we started dating. Note the chubbyness of my face.. nice no? I think I had a good 25 pounds on him then, thank goodness the tables have turned!!

We've had lots of amazing adventures along the way, and I can't imagine anyone else that I'd rather be making memories with. There's been lots of ups, a few downs and he's been there every step of the way. He puts up with a lot, and I am so grateful to know that he is always there for me.

Love you Willy! Happy 3 years of being married, here's to many more!
