Weekend Recap

This weekend went by way too fast! I even had a 3 day weekend, but it still seemed too short. It was definitely a busy one :)

On Friday I went to Crossfit in the morning, and when we got home our new baby chicks had arrived! I love when they're cute and little... not so much when they grow up though.
My hand is not actually that huge and manly, the chick is just tiny! I promise!

I took Murphy for a run in the afternoon, and the poor boy is not in such great shape! We did a 5K loop, and when we were almost back to the car he stopped and sat in the middle of the trail and started making faces at me. He refused to move until he saw a ball sitting in the bushes. After he picked up the ball he was happy to continue. He's been getting lots and lots of walks and runs, so his fitness is definitely improving!
He likes to lift his lip to one side when he's miffed about something

Friday evening Will and I made some awesome kebabs for dinner! So simple, easy and delicious!
I really like mushrooms, and really don't like peppers and tomatoes, hence the many skewers of mushrooms

After dinner we watched Argo again. We watched it in Mexico, but it was all subtitled in Spanish, so any parts where they weren't speaking English we had no idea what was going on. I really liked the movie, I didn't like how it portrayed the Americans as the heroes when it was clearly the Canadians :)

Saturday was a day of tinkering around the house. I went to yoga in the morning, I forgot how much I really like yoga when you have a great instructor. I suspect it will become a weekly thing from now on.
We got to take the dogs out to the creek to play for a bit, that was pretty entertaining.

Will and Baxter
Saturday evening was spent at my aunties 50th birthday party, then out to BP with some girlfriends for a visit.

Sunday was our most action packed day! We started off the morning with a 20KM bike ride with some friends. Poor Will was outnumbered, but I think he was ok with it :)
Michelle, Me, Ali, Kirsten
As you can tell from the blue sky, it was a gorgeous day for a ride! I can't wait to get my bike out on some unpaved trails!

After our ride we hurried home to help my dad get the yard ready for Eli's baby shower. It was lots of fun, and Eli was being his usual cute but serious self!

So dang cute!!!

He was making happy faces until my sister pushed the button to take the picture which is why I'm laughing like a maniac.

After Eli's shower we headed to Kimberley for dinner. If you are ever in the Cranbrook/Kimberley area, I highly highly recommend Pedal and Tap. The food is amazing, and it has such a neat atmosphere!
Ali, Kirsten, Me, Will (fun fact: we all used to be roommates!)

Cody, Michelle, Josh

It was a super awesome weekend!! I'm hoping to get my Meal Plan Monday post up a little later today, so keep an eye out for that!

Training Tuesday/Running streak update #1

Welcome to Training Tuesday! I've decided to start recapping my training from the previous week to keep myself accountable. It'll also be a way for me to document my 50 day running streak.

My running streak will run from April 16th to June 4th (If I counted right!)

Tuesday April 16- 2.26 miles (23:37)
Wednesday April 1- 2.5 miles (30:00), crossfit, yoga
Thursday April 18- 3 miles(27:45) Swim 1250 meters,
Friday April 19- 3.5 miles (32:00), crossfit
Saturday April 20- 1.5 miles (15:00)
Sunday April 21- 5 K Race (28:21)

Monday April 22- 1 mile (9:50) (Ankle was sore from the race on Sunday so I stopped after 1 mile today)

Run streak
Total distance: 16.86 miles (27.13 KM)
Total Time: 2:47:15

I don't really know why I'm counting in miles instead of KM's... Maybe because my treadmill shows miles? My Garmin shows KM though. Weird..... Just some thinking out loud for y'all!

Will and I before Sunday's race
7 days down, 43 to go :)

Spokane River Run Race Recap!

We had an awesome weekend in Spokane!! Trips to the US are my favorite :)

The race was on Sunday morning and it was so much fun! I got a new PR (by 15 seconds), my time was 28:21. It was definitely not a flat course by any means so I was happy with that.

With my favorite cheerleaders!

I've decided that trail races kind of rock and I need to run more of them. the scenery was gorgeous, and the last mile was beside the river which made for a beauty of a view.  I wish I would have been able to snap a picture of it! Instead, here is a picture of me...

...with my 2nd place ribbon :) I got 2nd in my age group out of 27, I was the 6/181 women, and 25/300 overall! I love smallish races! I got to stand on a podium and everything, which was pretty exciting for me!

This race was superb- the course was beautiful, the spectators rocked, the announcer was hilarious and I will definitely be back next year!

Upcoming races and such

I have 4 races coming up in the next 3 months. I have the Spokane river run 5k this Sunday (woohoo!!), a local 5k to fund the ALS society on May 11, the local mothers day 6km on May 12, and the Wasa Triathlon on June 9th.

After that I have a pretty long break from racing since we have something going on almost every single weekend this summer! I was thinking about doing the Nelson triathlon in August, but it falls on one of our two free weekends, so I'm thinking that I may back out of that one. I'm undecided at this point.

I'm looking forward to the Spokane River Run this weekend. I've been running quite a bit and I really think that I have a PR in me :) It scares me a little to go into a race with expectations, and to put those expectations out there, but I feel good about this one!! Look for a race recap on Monday.

I ran the local 5K in May last year, and I got my 5K PR of 28:36. It's an extremely hilly and difficult course, and I definitely surprised myself. I'm looking to beat that time this year, hopefully by a significant amount! It almost exactly 1/2 way through my running streak (It'll be day 26!), and I can't wait! I'm running the mothers day 6km race the next day with my momma, and I'm thinking it'll be more of a recovery run than a race!
Madre and I before the Las Vegas 1/2 marathon

It's time to start adding some more biking and running back into my training. I'm definitely not planning for a PR at Wasa, I haven't swam in a long time since I have been trying to get my shoulder injury figured out. I have a lot more range of motion than I had last year, so I'm hoping that swimming isn't going to bother it as much. I went for a swim yesterday morning and it felt good, so I'm hoping that it'll hold out!

My first Tri- I used a mountain bike that was way too small for me... I was ready to die at this point!
I think I am going to start recapping my training once a week to hold myself accountable- look for training tuesdays to make a comeback!

Three Things Thursday- Iphone edition

Today for Three Things Thursday, I decided to take a look through my phone and see what kind of interesting pictures I could come up with. Here you go!

#1- My brother and his hound dog Doug. They're both fast asleep! I can't wait for the nice weather again, I love sleeping in those gravity chairs!

#2- My mom owns a hair salon in town, and one day she came to work and found the letters on her sign rearranged:
They now have a cage on it so that the letters can't get switched!

#3- This picture made me laugh a lot. Probably more than it should have. We did a bunch of wallballs at crossfit yesterday and I giggled to myself a little thinking about it.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Welcome to my 100th post!

I wasn't sure what to write about today, so I started by going back and reading all of the posts that I have done so far!

All I can say is wow.. I need to start proofreading more before hitting publish! Spelling mistakes galore, and lots of interesting sentences. I especially enjoyed the following sentence from this post:

"On Sunday we stopped at Trader Joe's on our way out of town we stopped at Trader Joe's to stock up on our favorites!"

It must have been the euphoria caused by going to Trader Joes.

There was one from this post amused me as well:

"Mom mom and my auntie used to sew our Halloween costumes every year."

Note:  I don't call my mom "mom mom". In fact, I don't even call her mom very often, I usually call her Dag. I don't know how it started but since I was about 10 My siblings and  I have called our parents by their first names. It drove my gramma nuts, but Don and Dag didn't care so we kept doing it. I digress.

I started this blog because I was bored one day last summer. I've come to really enjoy getting my thoughts out, and I just want to say a quick thanks for reading and commenting :)

In other news:

I handed in my resume today for a job that I reeeeeally want! As long as everyone who has higher seniority that me has a job (and I'm pretty sure they do!!) then I think I should have it! Fingers crossed!

I forgot to do my meal plan Monday post this week, but it would have been short anyways. We are headed to Spokane this weekend to visit our friends that live there, and to do a race :) My 2nd 5K this year, and I feel pretty good about it :) I really want that PR!

Hope everyone is having a great week!!

50 day running streak, take 2 and Meal Plan Monday

Hi all!

I've decided to make a second attempt at a 50 day running streak. I made it to 12 days on my first attempt due to poor weather, school stress, lack of motivation....

This time, I'm ready. The weather is nice, I'm not stuck on a treadmill which is a bonus.
Oh, and I have this guy that I need to whip into shape:

Meet Murphy! He's Baxter's new BFF. His owner was getting rid of him because she didn't want him for breeding anymore, and Baxter's been awfully lonely since my parent's dog Jack died, so we went and picked him up this morning! Him and Baxter have been playing non stop all day, but the poor boy is in terrible shape! We have plenty of time to work on that though :) He's only 2 and needs a bit of training, but he is such a nice and lovey little guy!

I'll keep you all posted on how this run streak progresses!
Onto Meal Plan Monday:

Monday- Curried yam soup
Tuesday-Spaghetti squash with garlic, parmesan, and bacon
Wednesday- Crockpot Sweet Asian Meatballs with kobocha squash
Thursday- Pork stuffed acorn squash (Everyday Paleo Cookbook)
Friday- Chicken Enchiladas with green chili sour cream sauce.
Saturday- Will's night :)
Sunday- Steaks, Sweet potatos, corn

Saturday night is Will's night to take over the kitchen :) I generally cook most of our meals, so I usually plan our meals for the week. He works late quite often, and I love to cook so I have no problem with this arrangement. We decided that one night a week he's going to start making dinner and deciding what we're having! I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Fit Test and Bicycles

I am so glad the weekend is here!!

On Friday we popped down to Eureka Montana to pick up some stuff that we had shipped to the boarder. Will ordered truck parts (Boring!!) and I got clothes and shoes :)

I ordered a pair of compression socks and a new pair of Brooks Pure Cadence 2 shoes from Road Runner Sports
My knee looks mushy and weird here. I promise it doesn't in real life!
I also got 2 new dresses an a scarf from Kiki La'Rue. They have the cutest stuff on their website, and the customer service is fantastic!! They sent me the wrong scarf, and when I sent them an email to let them know, they replied and told me to keep the one that they sent, and that they were sending the other one out asap! Gotta love great customer service, I will definitely be ordering stuff from there again!
Me+Selfies=distster every.single.time.
Please excuse my craptastic pictures, I was too lazy to move my mirror to somewhere that the sun wasn't shining behind me!

Today Will and I went to look at mountain bikes. Will used to really be into it, and we talked about getting them last year but we never got around to it. We both found on that we liked, but Will's has to be ordered from an international warehouse so it won't be in for about 4 weeks. Mine, however, was in stock so I get to pick it up on Monday! Woohoo! Will is just planning on borrowing my dad's bike until his comes in.

Isn't it pretty? I'm so excited to take it out on the trails! My friend Michelle and I are going to join a ladies ride on Tueday night, hopefully I'll be able to keep up!!

After we took our bikes out, I finally had time to do my initial fit test for Tina's Best Body Bootcamp. I joined in again this round, the workouts she sent out last time were fantastic, and so far these ones are looking good too! I like that it gives me a little something to supplement the "easier" crossfit days.
Here is a look at my fit test results:

Lower body- Wall sit: held for 1:15
Upper body- HR push-ups: 17
Core- plank hold: 0:45
Power test- jump squats: 30
Cardio fitness- 1 mile run: 8:01

For the push ups and the jump squats, it was how many you can do in 1 min. As you can see, I have lots of room for improvement. I am planning to retest in 3 weeks, and then again 4 weeks after that. I am hoping to see some big changes!!

Hope everyone else is having an amazing weekend! The sun is starting to show itself, so I'm heading out to take Baxter for a quick walkie before it starts raining again!

New Years Resolutions- Update #3

1. Run 13 races in 2013

Race #1 was completed! I did a post on that race here. Doing a race always makes me excited for more races!! Check out my 2013 races tab to see the rest of the races I am planning on participating in this year!

2. Try out crossfit

Tried it and loved it!! I initially thought I'd sign up for a month just to try it out and say I did it, but I'm in love!! I am all signed up again for this month.

3. Be able to do 50 pushups in a row

I learned at crossfit that I really suck at pushups. Because of my shoulder, I hold my arms in a weird way resulting in pushups that are not proper pushups. So I'm back to the beginning, trying to do them properly. I am up to 3 now and I'm finding it really challenging. I feel like 50 might be a bit of a pipe dream at this point, but I think I'll wait and decide next month if I need to adjust this goal!

4. Try 1 new dinner recipe per month

We tried quite a few new recipes in March, here's the links to my favorites:

Basil Chicken Meatloaf
Turkey Basil Artichoke Meatballs
Crockpot Honey Sesame Chicken

5. Read 52 books this year

I got 5 books read this month! Check out my reviews here

Overall I am really happy with the way that my goals are progressing!

How are you doing with your goals for the year?

March Books Read

I'm a little behind on my months end posts right now, so I'm going to spend the next couple days catching up. My monthly goal check in should be up tomorrow :)

I got lots of reading done this month thanks to spring break! I read 5 books this month bringing my total to 17. Only 35 left to my goal of 52 this year!

Here's what I read this month:

1.  Alex Cross, Run- James Patterson

Alex Cross, Run
I have read every Alex Cross book that has ever come out (19 so far in the series). I've read almost every book that James Patterson has written, aside from the teen ones (about 67, if my counting is correct). I love his writing style, and I really like the characters that he develops. That being said, I like his earlier stuff better. There is  a lot less to try and figure out in the more recent books, and I prefer a mystery that stumps me. This book was good though, and I'll definitely keep reading this series.

2. Gone Girl- Gillian Flynn

The best book I read this month, hands down! I loved this book from the beginning to the end. Just when you think you have whats happening nailed down something happens to make you not so sure anymore. I loved it!! I'll most definitely be reading more of Gillian Flynn's books!

3. Dear John- Nicholas Sparks
I must admit, I've read this book before, but it was a few years ago before the movie came out. I decided to read it again after I bought the movie for $5 at Walmart. The book is about a million times better than the movie, and the endings are totally different! It's almost like 2 different stories. I liked that in the book they focused more on the relationship with his dad, and you just got more time to know the characters!

4. Message in a Bottle- Nicholas Sparks

Another Nicholas Sparks book that I've read before, but couldn't really remember what happened. Apparently there is a movie for this book too, I am going to have to watch it and see what I think :)

5. Defending Jacob

This was a close runner up to my favorite book of the month. My Kobo recommended this book for me and after reading the summary I thought it sounded like a good one so I downloaded it. Good call, Kobo! It was suspenseful, and really well written. It's about a boy named Jacob who is accused of murdering one of his classmates. The evidence seems to point to him, but his father refuses to accept that and is determined to prove him innocent. Definitely a worthwhile read!

Any book recommendations? I have a few books lined up for next month, but I'll be needing more soon!

Easter Weekend Recap

I had one heck of a busy week last week, and an even busier weekend!

I had a week long teaching job lined up last week, and when I got there on Monday there were no plans left for me, so I had to scramble a bit to come up with something, and spent lots of time during the week coming up with plans for the next day. I definitely learned a lot about flexibility :) My uncle and cousin were here from Whistler as well, so evenings were spent visiting with them!

On to the weekend....

On Friday night we went over to my uncle's place for my grandad's 80 birthday party. He swore up and down that he was only turning 77 though (he has alzheimers). We told him he was only getting big party if he was turning 80, so he was pretty proud of himself all night for tricking us into giving him a party!
After dinner my uncle let hie drive his razor around for a while, that was pretty entertaining!

Saturday was spent hanging out with my cousin during the day (he's 12 and quite hilarious) and having a fire with some friends in the evening. Will and I are the type of people who are in bed by 10, even on the weekend, so the fact that we got home at 1:30 am was pretty crazy- party animals in the house! I had to include this picture of baby Eli, he went to his first hunting banquet and he looked adorable!!

All cowboyed up!
Sunday was by far the most exciting day of the weekend! We had 17 people over for brunch (in our trailer- it was a tight squeeze!!)

Here's what was on the menu...
Fruit Salad with Apples, strawberries, oranges bananas and basil
Banana Bread
Deviled Eggs
Breakfast crockpot casserole (So easy and everyone loved it!)
Cinnabon Cinnamon Roll Cake (to die for!!!)

My friend Michelle brought pancakes made with chickpea flour and everyone loved them! They were gone before I got to the table :) Definitely going to have to get the recipe for those.

After breakfast we headed outside for a little Easter bag hunting fun! My dad's side of the family gets together every year for Easter and does a big bag hunt (like 70 people hiding and searching for bags = lots of fun!!). Unfortunately this year we didn't make it to Coaldale for the festivities, so I decided to host our own! It was so fun!!
Me and Will; Ali, me, Kirsten, Jenny; My dad photo bombing the girly picture

Everybody after finding all the bags; My brother and Eli; Jord, Brady, Will and Eli taking a quick snooze in the sun

We had Easter dinner at Will's parents house- a great ending to a great day!

Monday was busy too, I went to crossfit in the morning, worked for my dad for a cuple of hours and then went home and got a quick 5k run in before heading back to town to visit some family that was in from Red Deer. Baxter and I waslked back to the creek that flows though our property to see if it was running, and much to Baxter's delight it's flowing pretty darn good! That dog will be soaked from now until the end of July when it stops flowing.

Was definitely way too warm in that long sleeve shirt!
Bax in his creek

I hope everyone else had an awesome weekend too!!
