Belize #3

My last Belize post!

The pictures today are from the 2 excursions that we did!
The first trip was to go and see some Mayan ruins, go ziplining, and do a cave float. It was really rainy the day before we went, and it drizzled on an off all day during our tour. Because of the rain we weren't able to go and see the ruins we were supposed to see (Xunantunich), the river was to high to get across on the little ferry. Luckily we were able to go and see the Cahal Pech runins instead. Not quite as spectacular, but we got to actually go inside these ones which was really cool.  We had the most awesome tour guide- he called himself Brown Sugar, and he is studying the history of the Mayan people, so we got so much information!

Willy, looking cute!

Brown Sugar, teaching will how to call monkeys!

The ziplining was so awesome, the jungle is so dense and beautiful! And we got to see monkeys which was awesome!! I didn't bring my camera because I didn't trust myself not to drop it. P took lots though, so I will try to post some of those once she sends them to me!

Because of all of the rain we didn't get to do the cave floating part of the tour either :( safety first I guess, but it was a little disappointing!

On our second to last day the sun finally came out, so we decided to take advantage of it and go on a snorkeling excursion. We got to go to three different spots on the reef- Hol Chan Marine Park, Shark Ray Alley, and Coral Gardens. Snorkeling is officially my new favorite thing! The pictures definitely don't do it justice. It was just like being in Finding Nemo!!

We will definitely go back one day- I think that Belize is now my #1 favorite vacation destination!!

Belize #2

I am going to share some pictures from the second island, Caye Caulker, today! It was definitely my favorite of the two islands. It was so small, the whole island was about 5 miles long, but lots of that is mangroves and wildlife areas. The part that we actually hung out on was about a mile long. The roads are all dirt, and they don't have vehicles there- golf carts only! Needless to say we walked everywhere we went.

Our hotel was pretty much right smack in the middle which was great! No matter where you were on the island you were close to everything, but it worked out nicely. We had about 1/2 of a sunny day while we were on Caye Caulker, which was kind of sad. The rest of the days were overcast, and I think it rained for at least part of every day. I didn't end up with much of a tan, but it was so great to have a break from everything regardless of the weather!

Will and J, excited to find the fly shop!

We rented hammocks for $2 one day.. best decision ever!

Will and his new friends!

The house we rented. Pretty much every building on Caye Caulker was Easter colored, which was awesome!

We saw so many sting rays!!
One morning we started getting a little cabin fever. It was raining really hard, and we were getting bored. As soon as the rain let up, we headed out to do some fishing and get some fresh air even though it wasn't especially nice. While the boys were fishing we met a local lobster fisher who invited us to come out on his boat and check his traps with him... of course we said yes! It ended up being one of my favorite parts of our trip!
Success!!

Excited to be out of the house

Our new friend pulling up one of the lobster traps
P finally soaking up the sun... the day we had to leave!

At least we got to enjoy it for an hour before we had to hop on the boat!

Group shot at the split!
I have one more photo post coming up tomorrow!

Belize #1

Hi!

It's been a month since I took a little blogging break, but I'm baaaack! Today is going to be a picture filled post of our trip to Belize! I have so many pictures to share I decided I will break my trip into a couple of posts.

We visited two different islands on our trip. The first one was Ambergris Caye, which is the bigger of the two islands. It was definitely busier, and had way more hotels, restaurants, bars ect. It was the more touristy island for sure!

Here are some pictures from Ambergris Caye (where we spent our first 5 days) and our terrible night sleeping in the Houston airport (I don't recommend it!)

We tried to find places to sleep but everywhere we went there was loud music, TV's and really bright lights. And it was really cold....you'd think they do it on purpose!

I don't think any of us actually slept!

There were so many little piers along the beach- this one was especially pretty!

Belize Chocolate Company!

When you bought a case of beer you had to pay a $5 deposit for the bottles and the plastic container!

Fresh papaya covered with lime juice... delicious!

The food was AMAZING!

The view from our hotel room

Soaking up the sun on one of our TWO sunny days!

The snorkeling was amazing!

Will and J did so much fly fishing! They were in paradise :)
Look for part 2 tomorrow!
