Race Recap- Diakonos St. Patricks Day 5K

This race went sooo much better than it did last year!

The weather was so much better, I think it was even in the pluses which was awesome! It was a beautiful blue sky day, and I was pretty excited to run.

It snowed a little the night before making the course kind of slippery, so I was definitely trotting in some spots as opposed to running.  I realized I forgot my Garmin- I don't think I've ever done a running race without it before. I tried to use map my run but couldn't get it to work so I ran blind... or something.

I was frustrated at the start of the race. So many walkers started at the front and walked in big groups of 4 or 5. It was really hard to try and get around people, and I finally had to start asking people to move. I spent most of the 1st km trying to get around these people. I understand that it was a fun run, but it is still super irritating! *rant over*.

I ended up finishing in 28:29 which was a whole minute faster than last year- yahoo! The whole run felt pretty good, and I thought I was keeping a pretty decent pace despite running only a few (OK, 3) times since January. I just haven't had the motivation lately, and I was hoping that this race would get me back in the mood... it definitely worked. I'm already really excited for my next race in Spokane at the end of April, especially since Will agreed to run with me!

This race is a super fun one. People get right into their costumes, and the volunteers are the best! So many little cheer stations along the way! There is a great post race refueling station with coffee, water, tea, fruit and granola bars. They have a ton of door prizes too, my friend Ali ended up winning a tee shirt!  I highly recommend checking this one out next year if you are in the Calgary area.
Group sock shot!

    1. Thank you! And that sounds awesome, we don't have any trips planned in the near future, but I'll definitely let you know next time I'm in town!
