Baby R- Week 34 & 35

Week 34- Baby R is the size of a pineapple!
Week 35- Baby R is the size of a large canteloupe!

Highlights:

Week 34
Will and I went to a prenatal course on Saturday last week- it was pretty eye opening. I'm glad we went, but I am also a lot more terrified for labor than I was before... stupid videos. On Tuesday we had a tour of the maternity unit at our hospital, which is tiny! They have 4 labor and delivery rooms, one extra laboring room, and then 4 beds that are dedicated for patients who end up having a c-section. I know of quite a few ladies who are due right around the same time as me, so my fingers are crossed that Baby R decides to come on a day when it isn't too busy!

Week 35
We went on a fun little fishing trip with my brother, Chelsea (who was 8 days overdue at that point), and Eli on Sunday afternoon. It was Eli's first fishing trip and he wasn't quite sure what to think- the fish were a little scary! We had lots of fun though.

By far, the highlight of week 35 was meeting Baby R's new cousin Baby Brooke the very next day! She was born on Monday night, 11 minutes after my sister in law walked into the hospital! She is adorable, and looks just like her big brother :) It's made me so much more excited for Baby R to finally make his/her appearance.

Workouts

Week 34 still included lots of Baxter walks. 
Week 35 I decided to slow down as I got some really sharp stabbing pains in my lower belly while we were walking one night that took quite a while to go away, and it kind of scared me! I called the maternity unit to ask about them but they didn't seem to concerned. I have a Dr. appointment tomorrow, so I will definitely be asking about them to see what she thinks!

Eats

I can't stop eating carrots from the farmers market, they're so delicious!! I would not be surprised if baby comes out with an orange tint to his/her skin. I've also been eating lots of cherries and watermelon- I can't get enough summer fruit. I made a batch of these super easy 3 ingredient banana cookies and have been snacking on them too! 


How I'm feeling
Anxious. I am excited for baby to get here, but I am seriously so terrified of the whole labor process. I am not going in with a detailed birth plan, I'm planning on going with the flow and seeing how things go. My biggest question is epidural or no epidural? I'm not going in with a hard yes or no decision, I'm going to wait and see how things go. Maybe I'll be lucky like Chels and won't even have time to consider it!

Current projects/purchases

I bought a curtain rod and got the curtains hung, as well as a blackout blind. I am one of those people who must sleep in total darkness, so I'm going ahead with the assumption that this baby will be very similar. I am almost done the blanket that I'm making for Brooke, sewing is tricky business! The nursery just needs a few finishing touches and it will be done, yay!

Baby R- Week 33

Week 33- Baby R is the size of a head of lettuce!


Highlights of Week 33

Baby is still head down, but definitely moving closer to my ribs! My belly looks so much bigger all of a sudden now that it's up high rather than down low. At my appointment this week (33 +4) baby was measuring 34 weeks, so I'm glad the little turkey has decided to grow a bit!

Will's brother, his wife, and their baby Kinsley were visiting from Calgary last week, which was lots of fun. Kinsley is 4 months old, and probably the best baby ever. I didn't hear her cry the whole time they were here, she fusses a bit, but is such an easy baby. My fingers are crossed that happy babies are in Will's genes!


Workouts
Lots of walks with Baxter! I attempted some beach volleyball, but quickly decided that my center of balance is waaaay off, so no more v-ball for me until baby comes out!

Eats

So much watermelon! We tried cutting our last watermelon into sticks instead of triangles, and I am in love, I highly recommend it.

Pizza- we tried this recipe for breadmaker pizza dough- holy yum!! Do it now....or once it cools off enough to use the oven! It's been so darn hot here, but I was craving pizza for a few days, so I went for it (so worth it!!).

Green smoothies- I've been really trying to have one each day since green veggies haven't been especially appealing lately (aside from cucumbers- bring on the cukes!!). The last one that I made had spinach, pineapple, frozen cherries and blackberries and unsweetened almond milk. WWill is usually a little grossed out by green smoothies, but even he had a glass of that one!

How I'm feeling

So tired. Even though I now have the freedom to nap whenever, I just cant sleep for more than 45 min- 1 hour at a time- night or day! I'm experimenting with moving into our guest bedroom for a few nights to see if the bed in there works a little better for me- the mattress is quite a bit firmer, so I'm hoping maybe that will help a little!

Still not much soreness overall- yay! My upper back is starting to get a little tight, but I have massage next week so hopefully that will get straightened out.

Current projects/purchases

We finally got the crib and glider set up in the nursery! Yay! I'm heading out right now to go and get a curtain rod so I can hang the curtains that I got from Winners. The room is looking pretty good, but especially boy-ish. I guess that's because that is what I think I'm having. If we end up having a girl I'm definitely going to have to add some girly accents!

I also bought some super cute frames that semi fit with our color scheme, so now I have to decide what to put in them.

I finally started experimenting with my sewing machine- a difficult task to teach yourself. I'm hoping that with some practice I'll start to figure out what the heck I'm doing! I bought some minky material to make a blanket for my niece (who was due on Saturday, so could be here any day!) so I better get on that.

Meal Plan Monday

Its been awhile since I've done a post that isn't about Baby R. It's also been awhile since I've done a meal plan and stuck to it!!

After looking at how much we spent on groceries/ eating at restaurants last month (gross!!) I decided that I need to get better at coming up with a meal plan and sticking to it. I am guilty of buying things for dinners, and then deciding I don't feel like whatever was planned and either making something different, or going out/ordering in- I have a weakness for sushi (the non raw kind of course) and Indian food! Needless to say, when this happens I can freeze whatever kind of meat I bought, but my poor veggies usually don't make it.

Let's take a look at what's on the menu this week:

Monday- Halibut, quinoa-rice blend,corn on the cob
Tuesday-BBQ Beer Can Chicken, Oriental salad, carrots
Wednesday-Leftover chicken, salad & carrots
Thursday- Steak fingers and gravy (Will's request!)
Friday- Grilled chicken burgers, sweet potato fries, corn on the cob
Saturday- Burgers at my parents house
Sunday- Dinner (something BBQed!) at Will's Dad's house


I tried to prep some breakfasts/snacks for the week as well. Lunch is usually fruit and leftovers, or a grilled cheese sandwich depending on the day :)

I've been trying to incorporate more protein into my day lately, so breakfast this week is eggs, this super easy/delicious apple and pork breakfast sausage from PaleOMG, along with some fruit (lately watermelon, strawberries, or blueberries).

Along with increasing protein, I'm working on lowering my added sugar intake. I've been a little too lenient with the amount I'm eating lately, especially since I finished work. I feel like it's been vacation snacking for the past 2 weeks, so it's time to get that back under control. I made some paleo banana muffins (again from PaleOMG- love her recipes!) and I prepped a bunch of fruit for green smoothies- I am trying to have one a day since greens are still not especially appealing to me! This way I still get my sweet fix without the added sugar! I also made a big jug of iced tea using the Just Peachy Tea from Davids Tea, sweetened with a little honey- so yummy!!

Here's to a week of sticking to a plan... I'll let you know how it goes next Monday :)

Baby R- Weeks 30-32

In the past 3 weeks Baby R has been the size of a small cabbage, a butternut squash, and a coconut!

32 +4 days for me, 38+5 weeks for my sister in law who is due any day now!

Highlights of Weeks 30-32

I think the biggest highlight for me was finishing work!! I was sad to say goodbye to a great staff, and some awesome students, but I am so happy to finally have time to start getting things organized!
Some of my students made me this sweet canvas as a baby shower present- I thought it was so adorable!



My first week off (week 32) was really busy with family visiting, a friend's stagette, and my birthday! I am definitely looking forward to this upcoming week where I have nothing planned other than doing a really big house clean/organize!

Workouts

Still just walking with Baxter. We've been having to go really late at night since the temperatures here have been absolutely ridiculous (high 30's anyone?? No thank you!!).

Eats

Everything.

Haha seriously though, I am always hungry! I have been waking up sooooo hungry around 4:00am lately. I've been getting up and having a bowl of PB Cheerioes and hanging out with Baxter for a bit, then heading back to bed. I used to have a giant bag of almonds by my bed for when the morning sickness was an issue, I think I may have to start doing that again.

I've also been enjoying (probably way too much) summer fruit! Grapes, cherries, watermelon, nectarines.. I can't get enough!!

Due to the ridiculous weather, we've been pretty much BBQ-ing everything- anything to avoid turning on the oven. I found an excellent pin on Pinterest- 50 things to grill in foil- We have a few of these on the list for this week!

How I'm feeling

So so warm. I feel like no matter what I do, I'm always warm, especially my feet. They haven't swelled up at all, but they always feel like they're on fire! I ordered some cooling foot cream from The Body Shop, I'm pretty much willing to try anything at this point!
I am still sleeping horribly, I can't get comfy anymore. I'm glad Will sleeps like a rock, because I spend every night flopping around like crazy. Thank goodness for naps :)
My body still feels pretty good overall, no aches or pains or anything like that! My fingers are crossed that things will keep going that way!

Current projects/purchases

My mom came over a few weeks ago and painted the nursery for me- she is the best! The color I picked went on a lot darker than I thought it would, but I still really like it. We have furniture waiting for us to pick up at Montana Shipping Company (best idea ever, I love being able to order from American websites!!), so I don't have completed nursery pics yet, but they should be ready soon! Here is a little before and after of the paint color:

All of the baby stuff in the picture is on loan from my Aunt and Uncle! They brought a jolly jumper, ergo carrier, exersaucer, floor mat, change pad and covers, boppy pillow, bathtub, stroller.... The list could just keep going! I'm super lucky to have friends/relatives with babies close to the same age and older who love to let people (namely me) borrow baby things!!
